Provenance: Each volume with armorial bookplate of Alexander David Seton of Mounie to endpaper and Mounie Castle shelfmarks to flyleaves. James Anderson married the heiress to Mounie Castle and estate, Margaret Seton, in 1768. Volumes II and III also have the bookstamp of George Anderson, designed by James's son, John. The volumes contain some (possibly authorial) corrections in a contemporary hand.
Note: This collection comprises the majority of Anderson's most important works, including several rare tracts. The ESTC records only 6 copies of Free thoughts on the American contest, 1776 [ESTC N2015] and 8 copies of Prospectus of an intended new periodical work to be called The Bee, 1790 [ESTC T46025].
