Autograph letter signed from General Nicolas Sabloukoff, to John Angerstein, giving an account of Russian resistance to Napoleon's invasion of Russia "the whole country is flying to arms against him.. The Levee in mass will be near 500,000 men. Our government.. was suddenly attacked and outflanked by the way of Covno, where Bonaparte passed the Nieman... fell back until Drissa.. Bonaparte.. displays the greatest military talents & prudence took advantage of our retreat & gained with his immense army the flat between the top of the rivers Dnieper & the Dvina, marched to Orsha and prevented the communication between our armies. Prince Bagration... sent General Platoff to take possession of a crossroad to Smollensk...
