Note: In his letter, dated November 25th '79, to Effie J. Millais (possibly J.E. Millais's daughter, born 1858), Thomas Hughes writes: "I have exercised the privilege of one who was a friend of your father & mother before you had out in an appearance on these boards, to inscribe your familiar name in a book of mine which my wife has had bound & prepared for you." The book has been bound in blue morocco gilt with gilt doublures and Effie's first initials to the upper cover.
