Footnote
Note: This collection of pamphlets reflect the weakness of royal authority in France during the boyhood of Louis XIII. They reflct the concerns , not only of the nobility but also of the ordinary Frenchman in the face of civil and policital unrest (e.g. Ennvis des paysans champestres and Resveil de Maistre Gvillavme). The concerns of protestants during these unsettled times are voiced in the Harangve d'Alexandre le Forgeron addressed to a Protestant Assemby at Soissons and looking forward to the convocation of the States-General. Several are concerned with the regency of the Prince de Conde and his demand for 2,000 crowns from the inhabitants of Chateau-Thierry and the taking of hostages until the sum was paid. The Anti-Mavregard again voices the concern of the ordinary Frenchman. A response to the writings of Noel Mauregard or Morgart, who was responsible for a large number of anti-royalist compositions it is, unusually for this kind of material, in verse.
