Description
Simplicii … commentaria in octo libros Arisotelis de physico auditu … Lucillo Philaltheo interprete. Paris: apud Ioannem Roigny, 1544, folio, printer's device of a printing press on the title-page, woodcut decorative initials, woodcut diagrams in the text, 18th century diced calf, gilt arms of the Earl of Malmesbury on both covers, red morocco lettering piece, joints split, inscribed "Bibliothecae Colbertianae" at the head of the title-page, earlier ownership inscription partly washed out, light uniform paper discolourartion, a few pages lightly spotted, without the final blank leaf

Note: Adams A1898. Not in BM, Riley or Schawb. The fine printer's device is illustrated and described by Davies as no 247. The large decorative initials are probably designed by Geofrey Tory and are illustrated and described by Johnson Decorative initials no 53.
Provenance: From the library of Jean- Baptiste Colbert (1625-1683), 'Le Grand Colbert', minister of state, founder of the Gobelins, of museums and acadamies, he left at his death a library of nearly 55,000 of books.
