Footnote
Note: The very rare first edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's first book. A study in scarlet was first published in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887. Conan Doyle was paid £25 for the complete copyright by Ward Lock and Co. after the work had been rejected by the Cornhill Magazine, Arrowsmith's of Bristol and Warne. It marks the first appearance in print of both Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
