Description
The naval and military exploits, which have distinguished the reign of George the Third. London: W. Clowes for Samuel Leigh, 1820. First edition, 12mo (150 x 90mm.), 36 hand-coloured aquatint plates, original printed pink-red boards, uncut, preserved in folding red cloth box, occasional light offsetting onto text and plates, without 'Embellishments' leaf, spine rather worn, extremities slightly rubbed
Footnote
Note: Abbey, Life 350 (with 34 plates)
This copy includes the two additional plates, 'Vittoria' and 'Pampeluna', which "were probably issued later, as an added attraction" (Abbey), which may explain why the 'Embellishments' leaf is not present in this copy as it lists only 34 plates.
The work includes illustrations of the wars with France, Spain, the North American Indians, India, the United States of America, Holland and Algiers and the abolition of Christian slavery.
