Footnote
Note: J. D. Rattar (1876-1957), born at Fedaland, Northmavine, was the most well known of Shetland's pre-1950 photographers. Jack, like others of his surname, was born Ratter. However early in his career as a professional photographer he adopted the spelling Rattar.
His work included postcards, mounted and unmounted photos and souvenir photos in packs, his earliest photos being photographs of the Fedaland haaf station in 1890/92. After Rattar's death his widow bequeathed his negatives, slides, enlarger and other items to the Zetland County Council. [Cluness, A.T. "A Time to Keep", Scots Magazine, Feb. and Mar. 1957]
