Finé (1494-1555) was professor of mathematics at the College Royale in Paris and is chiefly remembered as the principal initiator of the renaissance in French mathematical studies in the 16th century, "it appears that the goal of his publications, which range in subject from astronomy to instrumental music, was to popularise the university science that he himself had been taught."
