Footnote
Note: The design of this Greek Revival cabinet with its characteristic painted decoration is likely to have been the result of Cottier's exposure to the work of Alexander 'Greek' Thompson in the 1850's and 60's in Glasgow. Cottier collaborated with Thompson in the late 1860's, including supplying the decoration at Holmwood House circa 1858 (see lot 134). The simple lines and painted decoration of this cabinet are consistent with other cabinet furniture produced by Cottier around this time.
