Footnote
Grizel Niven was a pupil of Henry Moore in the 1930s and began direct carving under his influence. Later in her career she won acclaim for her sculpture for the Dachau Concentration Camp memorial. After hearing Kate Mosse talking on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour about setting up a Women’s Prize for Fiction, Niven offered a cast of a sculpture of Mosse as a prize. Her younger brother was the actor David Niven.
