Crafts Council Gallery, London, Lucie Rie: A Crafts Council Exhibition, 30 January - 5 April 1992, cat. no.2.1.
Working first in Vienna and then, after her move, in London, Rie spent the 1930s and early 1940s producing earthenware. The pots she made for the table in this period were thrown on the wheel, then finished either by burnishing them to a soft sheen or by covering them entirely in black or white glaze; those that were glazed had to be fired resting on stilts.
