Footnote
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Spackman was an architect, painter, printmaker and sculptor, particularly known for his architectural subjects. After initially working as a draughtsman, he moved to London, where he studied architecture at King’s College and was a pupil of the architect T. E. Lidiard James.
A member of several professional and artistic societies, Spackman was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, and the Society of Graphic Artists. He exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
Spackman later settled near Croydon, Surrey, and was also a member of the Camera Club.
