Footnote
On 21st July 1969 the Omega Speedmaster worn by Buzz Aldrin became the first watch to be worn on the moon during the momentous Apollo 11 mission. To commemorate this, the case backs of Speedmasters were engraved with ‘The First Watch Worn on the Moon’. For a short period after the moon landing, this text was engraved horizontally across the centre of the case back, before being replaced by the Speedmaster medallion and the text curving around the periphery. These earlier examples are known as 'straight writing’ Speedmasters and are highly sought after as they were made right after the moonlanding, during a very iconic period for Omega.
