Footnote
George Oakley, ‘Cabinet maker and Upholder’ [1773-1840] was active at the turn of the 19th century, working from various premises in London. Embracing a 'Grecian' style, the firm produced stylish furniture and was a pioneer in a resurgence of interest in ‘Buhl’ marquetry, with brass inlay and mounts set off against exotic woods like calamander, rosewood, and figured mahogany.
