By His Majesty's special command, appointed to be read in churches … 2 volumes in 1, engraved frontis. by Thornhill, engraved vignettes on the titlepages to both parts, other engraved head and tail pieces by Thornhill, Cheron, Laguerre, etc. engraved by Dubosc, Vander Gucht, etc., decorative initials, ruled in red throughout, contemporary full black morocco, covers with three gilt panels, the inner panel comprising a richly tooled gilt border, surrounded by a panel with pyramids on the sides and devices at the corners, spine decorated gilt in compartments, a.e.g., a little wear at head and tail, edges a little rubbed, lower cover very slightly scuffed, one or two minor neat repairs to inner margins, large folio, Oxford: John Baskett, 1717
Note: D & M 942A; Herbert 942 variant ** Acclaimed for both the beauty of its typography and abundant illustration, this printing was also infamous as "A Baskett-ful of Errors" of which the misprint of "vinegar" for "vineyard" in the headline title above Luke chapter 20 v. 9 is an example and which has come to identify this particular printing.
