Description
Charles Lias, London, 1837, inverted pear-shaped with twisted vine side-handles, the fluted sides chased with fruiting-vines, one side engraved with presentation inscription, the other with coat-of-arms

Footnote
The arms are those of Gaskell for Daniel Gaskell Esq. (1782-1875).
The inscription reads, 'Presented by the Ladies at Wakefield, friendly to the Reform Act, to D. Gaskell, Esq. in Testimony of their high admiration of his services during the First & Second Representation in Parliament of the Borough of Wakefield...'

Presented to Daniel Gaskell Esq. (1782-1875) of Lupsett Hall, Yorkshire, and by descent.
Note:
Daniel Gaskell (1782-1875) was a British Liberal Party politician, elected in 1832 as the first M.P. for Wakefield. He was re-elected in 1835, at the same election that returned his nephew, James Milnes Gaskell (1810-1873) as M.P. for Wenlock.
