Footnote
Suceeding the business of George Angell following his death in 1884, George Frederick Courthope continued to trade with the style of the deceased and was first listed as a silversmith under his own name in 1889. Throughout his career, Courthope was involved in some of London’s esteemed institutions showing his diligent and cultivated approach to the trade. He was a member of the Consultative Committee of the London County Council for the Silver and Allied Trades, a fellow member of the Art Workers’ Guild, and was admitted to the Livery by special grant in 1929 as reward for his work with the design campaign for the Goldsmiths’ Company, shortly before his own death on 8th October 1935.
