Footnote
Novick came to New York from Russia in 1893 at the age of 15. Russia had a long tradition of producing heavy hammered copperware, and Novick started out as a coppersmith but also worked in silver and brass. Novick moved to Chicago in 1907 and set up a shop there two years later. His small operation, which he ran with his wife Tillie, prospered for nearly half a century until his death in 1957. He sold his work from a small storefront and through other merchants such as Macy's. He made copper bowls and sterling trays for the Kalo Shop which was Chicago's best known silversmith in the first part of the 20th century.
