Bought Spink, London 1969
The Diamond Point spoon survives from as early as the late 13th century and took over as the most popular and prolific pattern from the Acorn knop. It is a pattern known in England and on the Continent and is commonly seen unmarked, such as this example. The earliest fully hallmarked example is dated London 1498, although various marked examples, lacking date letters, are known giving confidence in the dating of unmarked examples.
The pattern is perhaps on the most refined, simple and elegant patterns of early flatware.
