Description
apparently unmarked, the badge of seven pointed star form, the centre oval with oval profile of an American officer, within an enamelled border with four gold stars, and clasped hands motif below. Engraved ground with Stars and Stripes and enamelled battle honours, the rear removable gold panel engraved "Killed in American War 24th May 1864 Lieutenant Nelson Fletcher aged 32", in fitted box

Footnote
Nelson Fletcher indicated his home was Flint when he enlisted as the 7th Corp. of Company "F" of the 2nd Michigan Infantry. He enlisted on the 22 April 1861 in Flint. He was 27 years old. He was transferred on the 1 December 1862 from Company 'F' to Company 'S' and was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant the same day. He was then promoted to 2nd Lt. on 7 December 1862. His death certificate states… "Killed by gunshot to heart on North Anna May 24 64.". He was laid to rest in the Pine Grove Cemetery Tuscola Co. Michigan
