Footnote
In 1789 King George's recovery from a serious illness, porphyria, was greeted with widespread celebrations. Much rarer than the many other commemorative objects arising from the King’s recovery, the medal appears to have been commissioned by Queen Charlotte for presentation to individual courtiers; they include a loop and ring, for suspension when worn. This medal has since been altered
