Footnote
Notes: there has been some confusion in the past with marks attributed to this rare Elgin maker. For some time a maker's mark IH with a town mark monogram of ELN (the E on its back supported by L and with N between), had been attributed to this maker (see revised Jackson's, page 602). This is now known to be spurious and these marks and the other makers associated with them are from Hamburg, Germany 1790 - 1811 and the maker 'IH' Johann Hues.
However, a quantitiy of Scottish Fiddle pattern teaspoons do exist marked IH only and with the combination of IH, ELN, mother and child, A (illustrated in revised Jackson's, page 602) are known to be for this maker. This piece appears to be a variety of these punches.
