Footnote
The unusual winged wheel motif, seen to the surmount of this fob seal, may signify an early division of The Royal Airforce. Prior to the foundation of the Royal Air Force on 1st April 1918, the Royal Flying Corps consisted of separate Naval and Military divisions. However, such devices were also employed as emblems by transportation companies during the first part of the 20th century. For a similar emblem please see Sotheby's March 28th 2007, lot 6.
