Footnote
By family repute this brooch was a gift from King George V & Queen Mary, to Lady Rachel Stuart, Viscountess Stuart of Findhorn, wife of British Unionist Politician James Stuart, 1st Viscount Stuart of Findhorn, Secretary of State for Scotland 1951-1957. Lady Rachel Stuart was the daughter of Victor Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire, spending her formative years at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. The brooch is believed to have been a gift given in thanks for her son, David Stuart (later 2nd Viscount Stuart of Findhorn) acting as page at a royal function. Thence by decent.
