Note: Hendrick Petrus Berlage began his practice in Amsterdam in 1889. His best-known work is the Stock Exchange in Amsterdam (1898–1903), notable for its rounded Romanesque arches and the forthright use of structural steel and traditional brick, examples of Berlage’s concern that materials be used truthfully.
