bronze, with a hooked handle depicting a lion's head on the end; the top shows a woman pouring water into a basin, with a man leaning leaning over the basin looking inside; an old cataloguing label reads ‘Scherling [sp] 1939’ a further clipping from an auction catalogue describing the piece is also included

From the collection of Dr. Julius Maeder (1900–1973), Switzerland, and thence by descent.
Dr. Maeder, a Swiss lawyer by profession, was also a published author with broad intellectual interests encompassing travel and Japanese art. He formed the greater part of his collection during the 1930s–1950s.
