Footnote
Canyon Diablo (Coconino County, Arizona, USA) IAB (iron), found 1891.
One of the most famous meteorites ever discovered, the Canyon Diablo meteorite is renowned for creating the spectacular impact site known as Meteor Crater on the plains of northern Arizona. Measuring nearly a quarter of a mile across and plunging deep into the desert floor, the crater is one of the best-preserved impact structures on Earth. For decades, it was a popular stop for travelers along the historic Route 66, drawing visitors eager to witness the dramatic scar left by a cosmic collision. Its lunar-like landscape was even used by Apollo astronauts as a training ground while preparing for humanity's first steps on the Moon.
