faience and gold, in the form of a scarab beetle, set in a modern gold mount, the underside stamped with a cartouche reading:
“Men-kheper-re” (mn-khepr-ra)
This is the throne name (prenomen) of Thutmose III, the famous pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt (c. 1479–1425 BC). The piece is accompanied by an old letter dated March 29th 1930 written by Albert Davidson C.B.E. concerning the scarab and confirming its attribution to Thutmose III.
