the stepped cornice above an arrangement of eight compartments with glazed hinged covers with gilt letter labels, with mirror-mounted side panels, on a plinth base, the reverse with a printed label 'E. Pollard & Co. Ltd. Store-Fitters/ CLERKENWELL, LONDON. EC1' with ink inscription 'Gamages/ West End'

Note: Gamages department store was located at 116-128 Holborn, London. Founded in 1878 by Arthur Walter Gamage, it became well known for its extensive toy department, and large department devoted to bicycles and motorcycles, as well as being the official supplier of the Boy Scouts. Changes in shopping habits and store mergers eventually led to its closure in 1972.
