the curved enclosed back and arms ending in scrolled hand holds, with embroidered silk upholstery depicting flower sprays and garlands, enclosing a crown surmounting a V, on cabriole legs with claw and ball feet; together with John Abercrombie (1780-1844) M.D.'s certificate from the Royal College of Surgeons, dated 1823, with orange seal

Note: By repute made for Princess Victoria, the daughter of Queen Victoria, thought to have been gifted to John Abercrombie, one of the Royal family's physicians in Scotland. Abercrombie was one of the leading physicians of his time, running a very successful practice in Edinburgh. He was extensively published on medicial and religious topics, and provided free health care to residents of the city.
