Description
the rectangular matchbook veneered top with a chamfered edge, outlined with scrolling foliate banding, over a pair of short frieze drawers with carved brackets, raised on pierced scrolling end supports and outswept legs ending in brass caps and castors

Note: Town & Emanuel, listed in directories as 'dealers in & Manufactureres of antique furniture, curiosities and pictures', occupied 103 New Bond Street from c.1830 until the sale of their 'Magnificent and Extensive Stock' by Christie's on 19 April 1849. They were inspired by the buhl revival, both manufacturing, restoring and dealing in French furniture and objects d'art. The firm's patrons included, besides Royalty, the Duke of Baccleuch, the Duke of Buckingham and Lord Braybrooke.1
