Footnote
Note: Henry Samuel, the Oxford Street based dealer in works of art, operated from premises at 484 Oxford Street from 1872 and specialised in copies of high quality 18th century furniture. The design for this box is taken from a that for a tea chest in Chippendale's Director, Pl. CXXIX. But unlike the present example, Chippendale stated it was 'intended to be made of silver and chased'.
