Provenance: Collection of William Simpson
Note: William Simpson was a cabinetmaker and eventual chief furniture designer at Whytock & Reid in the early part of the 20th century. Simpson's pieces are representative of the company's distinctive style which applied an Arts & Crafts approach to the Queen Anne style popular in the early 20th century. These chairs can be traced to a 1945 inventory of Simpson's home on Danube Street in Edinburgh's New Town.
