of rectangular form, with two alphabet series and numbers, signed 'Frances White's sampler/ worked in her 11th year/ worked at Mrs Longs school', centred with a verse titled 'Personal Virtues' and flanked by tigers, birds, flower baskets, and other animals and floral motifs, with a geometric and flower border, in a modern frame

Note: Mrs. Easter Jones bequeathed £1000 to establish a school for girls in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire in 1818 as part of the early 19th century reform movement to provide educational opportunities for poor children. Girls from the communities of Broxbourn and Amwell were given lessons in reading, spelling, knitting and needlework and by 1834 the school is recorded as having 56 pupils.
