Description
oval, watercolour on ivory, the subject wearing a hat and black frock coat captain's uniform of the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince Of Wales's Own), set inside a yellow metal locket, the glazed reverse with a dried pressed flower, possibly a poppy, on a cream fabric backing, with suspension loop; together with a small brass mounted enamel fob depicting an image of ‘Earl of Airlie’ on a white ground (2)

Colonel David Lyulph Gore Wolseley Ogilvy, 12th Earl of Airlie, (1893–1968) was a Scottish peer, soldier and courtier. Lord Airlie was commissioned into the 10th Hussars from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in 1912. He reached the rank of captain in the First World War, in which he won the Military Cross.
