Footnote
The firm of Dollond was begun in Vine St, Spitalfields (1750-2) by Peter Dollond (1731–1820) and was soon joined in partnership with his father John (1707-1761). The business then moved to Golden Spectacles & Sea Quadrant near Exeter Exchange in the Strand (1752-66). Following his father’s death Peter continued a partnership with firstly his brother, John Dollond Jr (1733-1805), and then with his nephew, George Huggins Dollond (1774-1852), until his own death in 1820. The firm traded at 59 North Side of St. Paul's Churchyard (1769-1804), 35 Haymarket (1780-93) & 59 St. Paul's Churchyard (1805-20). The family continued to run the firm until it was sold in 1871 by George’s son William Dolland (1834-1893), becoming ‘Dollond & Co’.
