oval, watercolour on ivory, the sitter possibly a retired naval officer, with natural grey hair and his left eye closed, wearing a white cravat and brown coat, the reverse depicting Britannia leaning on a seed pearl set anchor with a masted ship at sea in the distance, in a hinged yellow metal locket frame with suspension loop
