by Jones & Co, Regents Street, London, the curved blade etched with scrolling foliage, a crowned 'VR' cypher and inscription ‘Sir J E Alexander, M.G. 1868', regulation hilt with gilt guard cast and chased with foliage centred on a crossed sword and baton, ivory grips, in brass scabbard, the pommel with gilt hole retaining the bullion and red cord sword-knot, blade 81cm long; together with a portrait of GENERAL SIR JAMES EDWARD ALEXANDER KT KSTJ CB KLS FRSE FRGS (SCOTTISH 1803-1885), LATE 19TH CENTURY BRITISH SCHOOL, oil on canvas, from a photograph probably after Alexander's death, framed (2)
