each engraved with a lion statant surmounting a dukes coronet, within a banner bearing the motto ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’, surmounted with a coronet, the body of each further engraved with stars; comprising: twenty two small wine glasses, 11.5cm high; twenty six sherry glasses, approximately 10.5cm high; and five decanters with stoppers; en suite with the preceding lot (qty)

Provenance
This suite of engraved glass belonged to Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (b. 1st May 1850, Buckingham Palace, d. 16th January 1942, Bagshot Park, Surrey). He was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s seventh child and third son. Prince Arthur married Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia in 1879. They had three children, including Princess Patricia, who later became Lady Patricia Ramsay. The suite of glass has passed through the family via Lady Ramsay, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, by descent.
