painted on oval ivory or vellum laid on card plaque, the gentleman with a brown periwig, white and blue cravat and a black robe, initialled ‘TF’ to the right, inside a brass locket with suspension loop

Provenance
Part of the former contents of Poltalloch House, Kilmartin, Argyll; designed by William Burn in the Scottish Baronial style and built circa 1849-1853 for the Malcolm family
A miniature by Thomas Flatman, titled ‘Luke Pead’ was exhibited at the Burlington Fine Arts Club, Exhibition of Portrait Miniatures, London, 1889, Case XXXVII, No.58, then owned by John Malcolm of Poltalloch
