Footnote
This design was patented by W.R. Pilkington on July 10th 1911 (Pat. 15,914) and is an improvement to the design of earlier heliochronometers produced by Pilkington & Gibbs. By matching the date on the adjustable outer ring to the inner calendar mean time can easily be read using by lining up the light box. The pointer is adjustable according to any latitude. Due to the onset of the World War I the number of these pieces manufactured was very low, hence their rarity today.
