Footnote
The two-part construction of this chest of drawers and lack of superfluous mouldings would indicate it's function as a portable piece of furniture. possibly for military purposes. Unlike later specifically designed ‘campaign’ furniture, the chest still retains much of the look of traditional Georgian furniture of the period. The three drawer configuration above the long drawers is generally considered to be a Scottish design feature, as seen on the chests of drawers made by Alexander Peter for Dumfries House.
