the 2 ½ inch silvered dial with Roman numerals, mounted in a gilt mask with acanthus engraving, fine blued steel moon hands, the case with hinged acanthus cast faceted baton carrying handle over a rectangular platform top finely engraved with a hoho bird surrounded by dense scrolling foliage, above dentine cornice mouldings flanked by fluted three-quarter column corner uprights supported by plinths and topped with turned finials, the front with a bevelled panel and the sides with panels similarly engraved to the top with ho-ho birds and butterflies, on a stepped base with double dentil edging set on double rope twist disc feet, the single chain fusee movement with an underslung English Lever escapement regulated by three-arm monometallic balance, signed and numbered to the back plate ‘Dent, Strand, London, 1616’
