Lot 126
Estimate: £500 - £700
Auction: Lots 1 - 328 | 13 November 2024 at 10am
after a Chinese shape, both painted with the ‘Maltese Cross’ pattern, with a flowerhead applied at the terminal, open crescent mark
13.7cm and 14cm long
Provenance: The Maisels Collection of British Ceramics
Note: The form is inspired by the Chinese rice spoon, but the exact purpose of the English porcelain rice spoon is unknown. The plain shape and flat handle made them difficult to use, except as a small ladle. The same shape of spoon with a pierced bowl was probably used as a sifter spoon.
