the cornice above an arrangement of sixteen panels inlaid with scenes of scholars, courtiers, and imperial figures in landscapes with pagodas, gardens and pavilions, the frame with tree shrews, dragons, butterflies and scholars' objects interspersed with lotus, bamboo, and prunus blossoms, the plain side panels opening to shelved void interiors, raised on ogee feet
