the lid and front inlaid with scrolling mother-of-pearl panels with recessed brass handles to the sides, opening to a deep purple velvet and leather interior, the lid with a concealed stationery compartment above two lift-out trays fitted with hobnail cut glass jars and boxes with silver covers, hallmarked Archibald Douglas, London 1831, the box with a drawer to the base with two gilt tooled leather lids opening to a blue velvet lined jewellery tray
