the cabinet with a pierced and carved cresting with putti flanking an armorial shield, above a fall front with an oval relief-carved reserve with bacchic putto and a goat, opening to a plain mirrored interior and flanked by herms; the separate stand with a frieze drawer raised on garland hung scrolled legs headed by terms and joined by a shaped pierced and carved stretcher centred by a female mask; the reverse with partial label 'M. GUGGENHEIM ... VENICE'

Note: The designer, manufacturer and art dealer Michelangelo Guggenheim was active in Venice from the middle until the end of the nineteenth century. Working primarily in adaptations of historical period styles, Guggenheim was responsible for the decoration and furnishing of a number of prominent Venetian palaces during his career.
