Literature:For a discussion of Peploe's work in Paris in 1910 see Philip Long, The Scottish Colourists 1900-1930, 2000, " Peploe found the high-key emotionalism and freedom of Fauvist painting extremely attractive. To say that his landscapes of c.1910 simply explore and indicate the play of light on local colour and form, might suggest that he was a reserved Scot only conscious of future sales at home in Edinburgh and not wishing to stray too far from Impressionist ideals. In fact, his work at this date was free, with looser, almost wild brushwork than he was to use again."
