Note:In a letter to the original purchaser Morrocco writes of the painting:-' The picture was painted in Spain at a small fishing village on the Costa Brava called Rosas, and thenarrow street (which is typical of the village) is one which leads off the main Cathedral square. The greenish door on the left is actually the entrance to a house, and incidentally the man with the basket standing in the shadows was, I think, selling not fish or bread, but lottery tickets. Rosas is a very colourful little place and I found plenty to interest me in both the narrow streets and at the beaches and harbour. I should think, that in some ways, Rosas would be the Spanish equivalent of Peterhead.'
